Chemical Peel

A surgical chemical peel involves the application of a chemical solution by a physician to peel away the top layers of your epidermis and dermis. A surgical chemical peel is much stronger than the chemical peel our aesthetician performs due to the depth of penetration of the chemical solution.

A medium chemical peel or deep chemical peel is performed and monitored by Dr. Michael Thornton, who personally applies the chemical solution and monitors the progress.  Chemical solutions required for a medium or deep chemical peel consist of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or phenol but chemicals can be used.  Due to some mild discomfort involved, Dr. Thornton will prescribe oral sedation medication and perform local facial nerve blocks for anesthesia.

What can I expect during my consultation?

During your consultation, you will meet privately and exclusively with Dr. Michael Thornton where you will collectively share in the decision making process about your personal needs, desires, and expectations.  Although well qualified, we choose not use patient coordinators, nurse practitioners, or physicians assistants to perform your consultation.  Dr. Thornton will complete a thorough medical history and perform a careful examination of your skin to determine if you are an acceptable candidate to undergo a surgical chemical peel vs. other forms of skin resurfacing.
