Reconstruction of the abdominal wall following massive trauma, injury, infection, or large abdominal wall hernia defects is a surgical subspecialty onto itself.
Dr. Michael Thornton has extensive training in general surgery combined with advanced fellowship training in trauma surgery from the University of Maryland, R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he learned sophisticated techniques of complex abdominal wall repair and closure. Using advanced surgical techniques and methods of component separation, Rives-Stoppa hernia repair, and through the application of acellular biological mesh materials, reconstruction of the abdominal wall can be accomplished with greater success.
Dr. Michael Thornton accepts and welcomes self patient referrals and physician referrals for the evaluation of complex abdominal wall hernias needing abdominal wall repair and/or reconstruction.
